Where has the time gone?
It’s the end of the week already?! Each day I find myself asking where the time has gone. The last several weeks have truly flown by and I’m afraid the last few remaining weeks won’t be much different. Even looking at each day as 2:45 rolls around I feel eager to keep teaching as my time in the day seems to disapeer. This week I continued to teach a full load of classes aiding in the day going by faster than I could blink.
This week I truly enjoyed continuing to make connections with students who before seemed to be so quite. I heard students speak up that are normally quiet telling me they enjoy my class. It certainly gave me all the feels. While i’ve had my highs of teaching i’ve experienced the lows as well. This week I was challenged a little more than normal by a class. My often layed back manor in the classroom was put on the back burner for a hot second. We had to take a few minutes to return to our classroom expectations and consequences. While this class has challanged me a time or two I truly enjoy to have them in class as I have gained so much from them, hopfully they have gained just as much back from me.
With that being said I am continuously learning how to handle a variety of classes. I have a larger class that loves to talk and a very small class that I can’t get a peep out of. I challange myself to break the mold these classes have created. On a daily basis I connect with students in each class trying to figure out what makes them tick and figure out ways to incorporate those into our daily classes.
This week also provided time well spent as I took time to get to know the community a little bit better. I attended a conservation district board meeting with Mr. Brown. While sometimes I wondered why he chooses to be involved in the community as much as he is it’s all starting to make sense now. He creates a multitude of connections through each organization he is a part of that can be utilized through the Ag program. Furthermore providing students with “real life” experiences and connections to help further their knowledge of the agricultural industry and beyond.
Those community connections continued to grow for me as I ended my week attending the school play. I’m glad I was able to experience all the hard work that several of my students have put in over the last couple months. I was even more excited to finally get to introduce my mom to the school that has become a significant part of my life these last few weeks.
Just as fast as this week came it has come to an end already. My biggest take away this week is to always look for growth. This week I grew in every aspect of teaching from classroom management to developing vital connections in the community. I look forward to even more growth as I take on this second half of my student teaching experience.
